Christmas 2006

Pass By The Manger

I pass by the manger,
More often than not,
Forgetting to see
The small, powerful blessings
That probably grace our lives
More often than we can count.
Hiding in plain sight.
I pass by the manger,
And miss the chance
To touch the Divine
At least as often
As I forego the sacred
Inside myself.
Surprising to rediscover
How close God can be;
Unsettling to remember
How often I elude my own miraculousness.
Thank God for one day a year
When I have to stop
At the manger.
