Christmas 2018

In God’s creation, darkness grows
For as the gift of choice permits
Hearts (both harden’d and of love)
Exist: creation’s freedom’s risk.

So in this season, Child’s birth
Avails reminders – bends toward life
That when, in deep’ning shadows, we
Oft find ourselves, provides that sight

Remains. We hold this truth:
Not as a shade, nor hollow myth,
But compass: for when lost we need
Love’s light to guide us, as we drift.

For though we wish we’d stay a course
Bereft of evil, thoughtless deeds,
We find ourselves, in time and tide
Diminished by our careless creed.

Now: prophet’s birth; the gift corrects
Trails taken, fraught with thorns and pain.
And through His light, His words, His life
Forgiveness lets us then regain

The chance to heal, aligned with Source
That we claim. Forth from graceful spring
We come; re-enter, cleansed by Grace
That Child’s hand in manger brings.

While now in darkness, compass shines:
Only caring scours blight.
And blessed through Grace, we know this Truth:
No darkness ever hides the Light.
