Christmas 2020

For when in darkness, fingers reach
Towards light (our own illumined way)
In hope, we pray. Entreat. Beseech:
That pow’r of light should evil stay.

For this we live. That, in our hearts
Lie chambers passing dark and light
Which, blended, offer starting mark
And names our conflict: humans’ plight.

To choose is our known, greatest gift
Conferred through Spirit’s presence; voice;
We move towards Light, which heals the rift
Created when our poorer choice

Defines our time. Yet, always near
Stars’ brightest presence in the skies
Reminds us that this time of year
Renews with light what dark defies.

So in this time, we hold The Light
Lest we are left with paupers’ choice
Forswear the darkness! Warm the night.
And welcome God’s still, quiet voice.
