You Left Too Soon

I’d jump at the chance once more to be with you
I’d never say no to make up for our premature adieu
You lit my life with your adoring
Makes ev’ry thing else here just seem boring
In the absence of the one I knew

I’d give so much up for just one simple chance
To be in line for once more ‘round the floor in your life’s earthly dance
‘Stead I have to hold the heavens
Left with an aching heart and these yens
Never knowing these things in advance

Oh, I can simply dream what we might do
Under the dancing stars, the sky its deepest blue:
Loosened from the cares we carry
We’d never lag, nor ever tarry
Never touch the earth—given
Heaven’s second chance

But I know I’ll have to wait to be with you
Until another day when my time here, like you before, is through
I’m swamped by lots of memories now
Don’t have the slightest clue about how
I can wait until our next  debut

Yes, the sky’s a little dimmer now, the sun’s a paler hue
The nights, they seem much darker now since from us you withdrew
But our hearts sing at what you brought us,
Made time with you a joyful chorus,
And in another time, we plan to meet anew.
You left too soon….
